Day 6: John Day to Baker City, OR

Today: 81 miles and three mountain summits above 5,000 ft. Lovely scenery..snowy peaks, rushing rivers, verdant valleys. There was not a single town between start and finish, so we bought sandwiches last night and put them on the truck. I rode with a different group of 4 today: it's important to find riders of a similar velocity, and we get to know each other while slogging up the long hills. On the downhills we go over 40 mph and grip the bike. I'm tired when I get in.
