Day 46: Syracuse to Little Falls, NY

It rained all day, sometimes heavily. Nothing to do but pedal through it -soaked to the skin -for 78 miles. Most riders agreed that it was better than riding through the heat. I placed the cue sheet in plastic, protected my camera and telephone, put a waterproof bag around the pannier. It's not just the rain, but the bike wheel ahead of you throws water and grime in your direction. We couldn't stop, couldn't take photos, so we biked with determination to the hotel...where the sun came out.

Day 45: Rochester to Syracuse, NY

93 miles today in heat and humidity...the last ride over 90 miles. We followed the Erie Canal, about 20 miles on a bike path (pictured). The path was gorgeous, through small villages along the canal. The rest of the trip along the main road was less interesting, unless you include the unisex hair salon in a town sadly named Weedsport - where a lady cut my hair. Soon after I had my fourth flat tyre. We rolled into the hotel, hot, sweaty, and thirsty. Katie had no idea her family would be sitting in the lobby when she arrived....surprise!

Day 44: Niagara to Rochester, NY

Today's 83 miles may have been the most boring of the tour. It was also very hot and humid, so I made haste to the hotel. I have posted one landscape to show upstate New York, another of the condition of the hotel room when the three bad pennies arrive with luggage and bicycles, and this shot of Leo's bike in the hotel window at the time of the firework display over the falls.
